Election Day

PROBLEM: In Alabama, which has some of the strongest election safeguards in the country, legislators are working to preserve election integrity while opening up absentee voting to more people.

  • For the July 14 runoff election, a District Judge in Alabama ruled that to vote absentee, voters only need to send in a copy of their photo ID

  • The requirement to also submit two witness signatures or a notary was deemed unnecessary for the July election

  • The judge also required the state to offer curbside voting for the runoff

Slightly more than 23,000 ballots were thrown out, mostly because those voters or their witnesses missed at least one line on a form.
